How Long Were Creation Days

Were they 24 hour days?

The word "day" is defined the first time it is used -- the first time it appears is the Bible:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning-- the first day. Genesis 1:1-5

All of the days of creation are described the same way:

Genesis 1:5 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the first day.
Genesis 1:8 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the second day.
Genesis 1:13 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the third day.
Genesis 1:19 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the fourth day.
Genesis 1:23 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the fifth day.
Genesis 1:31 And there was evening, and there was morning-- the sixth day.

The word "day" is defined as the light and the dark -- the morning and the evening. The Bible is saying that the days of creation are literal 24 hour days. In addition, the Hebrew word for "day" is "yom". Yom can mean "a period of time" but when it is preceded by a number it always means a twenty four hour day.

The trees are made on the third day and the sun isn't made until the fourth day. Trees can't survive without sunlight for millions of years. The days of Creation were not long periods of time, the days of Creation were normal, 24 hour, solar days.
